From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
Stakeholders in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State have criticised the immediate past governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, accusing his eight-year administration of failing to deliver meaningful democratic dividends to the people.
The Chief of Staff to the Sokoto State Government, Alhaji Aminu Halliru Dikko, made the remarks while addressing APC stakeholders in Tambuwal on Wednesday.
Dikko said Tambuwal’s administration fell short of the expectations of the electorate, despite enjoying political backing at the time, adding that the experience justified Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko’s endorsement of Governor Ahmed Aliyu in the 2023 governorship election.
According to him, the current administration has recorded visible development across the state, particularly in Tambuwal Local Government Area, noting that Governor Aliyu’s performance stands in sharp contrast to that of his predecessor.
He cited the appointment of 83 indigenes of Tambuwal into various government positions, the distribution of palliatives to individuals and groups, and the execution of infrastructural projects as evidence of inclusive governance.
Dikko also disclosed that several road projects had been awarded to connect communities, villages and towns within the local government, urging residents to remain united and continue supporting the present administration to attract more development.
“The present administration has shown commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots development. Tambuwal people are already feeling the impact,” he said.
Also speaking, the Sokoto State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, dismissed the regrouping of opposition politicians under the African Democratic Congress, describing it as “old wine in a new bottle.”
Achida said the opposition would not pose any serious challenge to the APC in Sokoto State ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the electorate could no longer be deceived by recycled political actors.
He urged older politicians within the opposition to allow younger leaders to emerge, arguing that their continued dominance would not change the political landscape.
The APC chairman spoke at the Tambuwal Local Government APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the Sultan Muhammad Maccido Institute of Qur’anic and General Studies.
In his remarks, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, announced that the APC-led administration plans to establish three Mega Schools in each senatorial district of the state.
He disclosed that the proposed schools would cost about ₦1.5bn, adding that Tambuwal Local Government Area would benefit from the project.
He added that the initiative is part of the government’s strategy to strengthen access to quality education and improve learning outcomes across the state.
