Troops of Sector 2 under Operation Fansan Yamma have recorded a major operational success in Kebbi State, recovering a large cache of high-calibre weapons, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other logistics items from suspected Lakurawa terrorists.
The operation, carried out on June 14, 2026, around the Dogon Daji general area in Dandi Local Government Area, forms part of ongoing efforts to rid the North-West region of terrorism and other criminal activities.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said the troops deployed overwhelming firepower against the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee.
According to the statement, troops subsequently launched an aggressive pursuit along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, leading to the recovery of a significant quantity of arms, explosives, and logistics equipment abandoned by the fleeing criminals.
Items recovered during the operation included Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher tubes, several RPG warheads, multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two motorcycles used by the terrorists for mobility, battery chargers, and various personal belongings.
The statement noted that the troops emerged from the encounter without casualties.
“The operational success underscores the unwavering commitment of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, to dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across the region,” the statement said.
It added that the Nigerian Army remains determined to sustain offensive operations against criminal elements, deny them freedom of action, and disrupt their activities in order to ensure the safety and security of law-abiding citizens.
The military assured residents of its continued resolve to restore peace and stability across the North-West through sustained and intelligence-driven operations.
