A candidate for the House of Representatives, Hon. Abubakar Aminu Daneji, the African Action Congress (AAC) flag bearer for Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, has called on his supporters and residents of Kano State to stay away from the planned Hawan Daushe processions scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The appeal comes amid rising tension following reports that two rival claimants to the Kano Emirate throne, Aminu Ado Bayero and Muhammadu Sanusi II are planning to hold separate horse processions along similar routes within Kano metropolis.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Daneji warned that the situation poses a serious risk of violence, bloodshed, and destruction of property if not properly managed.
He said the call for caution was necessary to safeguard lives and prevent any breakdown of law and order during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, urging residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
According to him, “the advice is to prevent any situation that could escalate into violence or public disorder.”
The development has heightened concern in several parts of Kano, particularly in communities expected to witness the processions, including Mandawari, Galadanci, Kwanar Diso, and surrounding areas.
Observers and residents have warned that failure to take urgent preventive measures could lead to unrest and possible loss of lives and property.
Security agencies had previously suspended Sallah durbar activities in the state to avoid clashes, but there has been no official announcement this year restricting the planned processions.
A senior traditional official, Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba, said the group supporting Aminu Ado Bayero had formally notified the police of their intention to proceed with the Hawan Sallah procession.
He stated that since no directive stopping the activity had been issued by security agencies, they considered it an approval to proceed.
Meanwhile, concerns have been raised by residents over alleged inconsistencies in the handling of past emirate-related processions, with calls for fairness and neutrality in enforcement of security directives.
Some residents recalled previous incidents in which clashes reportedly occurred in certain areas, leading to casualties and destruction of property.
Earlier on Wednesday, both emirate factions were seen staging separate horseback outings, further heightening fears that Thursday’s events could escalate tensions.
Reports indicate that Aminu Ado Bayero is expected to visit his Mandawari residence before proceeding with the Hawan Daushe procession, while Muhammadu Sanusi II is also expected to conduct a separate procession along a similar route.
Concerned residents have therefore appealed to the Kano State Government under Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and other security agencies to urgently intervene and suspend the planned activities in the interest of peace.
They warned that allowing parallel processions on the same routes could trigger clashes and endanger innocent citizens who are not part of the emirate dispute.
Residents further urged security agencies to act swiftly, fairly, and decisively to maintain peace and stability across Kano State during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
