The Yobe State Government under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni has recorded significant achievements in manpower recruitment, training, and capacity building over the past seven years, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s public service.
In a statement issued by Yusuf Ali, the Focal Person for Digital and Strategic Communication, the administration said official records show that it recruited 11,909 new civil servants across critical sectors to improve service delivery and address manpower shortages in government institutions.
The breakdown revealed that 4,658 personnel, representing 39 per cent, were employed in the health sector to enhance healthcare delivery across the state, while 2,916 personnel, representing 24 per cent, were recruited into the education sector to improve teaching and learning.
Another 4,335 personnel, representing 37 per cent, were employed across other sectors of the public service.
The government also highlighted its commitment to staff development, noting that 7,040 public officers benefited from various training and capacity-building programmes aimed at improving productivity, efficiency, and professionalism.
Out of the trained officers, 3,000 were newly recruited staff, while 3,102 participated in specialised professional development programmes.
Other beneficiaries included 220 Chief Executives, 160 Human Resource Officers, 160 officers trained on Code of Conduct and Ethics, 120 Procurement Officers, 110 Directors, 98 Permanent Secretaries, and 70 Protocol Officers.
The administration stated that more than 59 per cent of the beneficiaries were newly recruited staff and other public officers, reflecting its policy of equipping workers with the skills and knowledge needed for effective service delivery.
Observers described the initiative as one of the most extensive public service revitalisation programmes in Yobe State’s history, saying the recruitment and training efforts have strengthened manpower, especially in the health and education sectors.
Governor Buni’s administration maintained that human capital development remains central to sustainable development, with investments in workforce expansion and capacity building aimed at improving governance, service delivery, and socio-economic growth in the state.
The achievements, according to the government, demonstrate its commitment to building a modern, competent, ethical, and service-oriented public service capable of meeting the needs and aspirations of the people of Yobe State.
