The Tsobo Community Development Association has condemned the recent clashes in Adamawa State, calling on both warring parties to “shield their swords” and embrace lasting peace.

The renewed crisis, linked to a longstanding land dispute between the Tsobo and Bachama communities in Lamurde Local Government Area, reportedly left over 12 people dead, many injured, and several properties destroyed.

At a press conference at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Yola, the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Nathaniel Solomon, said, “The violence has caused untold suffering. Our people remain brothers and sisters, yet many lives and livelihoods have been lost.”

Solomon claimed eyewitnesses reported that the violence escalated on July 7, 2025, when attacks by both communities led to burning of homes and retaliatory killings. He also alleged that the Nigerian Army shot and killed unarmed Tsobo women during peaceful protests, a claim the military denied, attributing the act to local militias.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reportedly intervened to broker a fragile peace, but the Tsobo community is demanding further action, including formal apologies and reparations from both the Nigerian Army and the Federal Government.

“The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling for an investigation into the shooting of our women, and we insist that those responsible be brought to justice,” Solomon said.

The ongoing conflict has disrupted economic activities, with residents unable to access farms or engage in trade. Security personnel have been deployed to maintain order, but tensions remain high.

Solomon further called for a neutral assessment team to document the destruction and provide compensation to victims and their families. “We also urge the international community to take notice and provide aid to affected communities,” he said.

The Tsobo Community Development Association reiterated its call for peace, justice, and decisive government action to address the root causes of the conflict and prevent further instability in Adamawa State.
