The Baba Inna Foundation has sponsored the celebration of the International Day of ICT for Girls involving public and private secondary schools across Kano State.
Speaking during the event held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, the Chairman of the Foundation, Lt. Commander (Rtd.) Ibrahim Baba Inna, commended the Kano State Government for its support, which made the successful hosting of the programme possible.
He said the Foundation, established in 2015, is dedicated to improving the lives of women, girls, orphans, and other less-privileged members of society through various empowerment and educational initiatives.
According to him, the celebration of the International Day of ICT for Girls is aimed at encouraging young female students to embrace technology and prepare themselves for opportunities in the digital age.
Baba Inna noted that the world is rapidly embracing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), stressing that Nigerian students must not be left behind.
He observed that modern technology has made learning more accessible, with many students now able to acquire knowledge and skills from the comfort of their homes through online platforms.
He reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting secondary school girls in Kano and beyond to develop the digital skills needed to compete globally and excel in their academic pursuits.
The retired naval officer also appealed to the Kano State Government to expand future ICT awareness programmes to rural communities, ensuring that students in remote areas have equal access to digital learning opportunities and technological advancement.
He said such efforts would help bridge the digital divide and give rural students the same opportunities enjoyed by their counterparts in urban centres.
