The Permanent Secretary, Government House Kano, Hajiya Binta Lawan, has attributed the impressive performance of secondary school students in this year’s Secondary School Qualifying Examination to the visionary leadership and commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Hajiya Binta made this known when our reporter met her in her office recently, where she expressed strong confidence in the governor’s sustained efforts to reposition the education sector and ensure continuous improvement in academic standards across Kano State.
Her remarks came at a time when students and their parents were celebrating the success recorded in the examination, describing it as a significant milestone that reflects the positive changes taking place in the state’s education system.
According to her, Governor Yusuf has demonstrated foresight and determination by placing education at the center of his administration’s development agenda.
She noted that the deliberate investments in infrastructure, teaching quality, and student support have created an enabling environment for effective learning.
“Educating society remains the most effective way of addressing many of the challenges we face, including crime and social instability,” she said.
“When individuals are educated, they become productive, responsible, and valuable members of society,” she added
Hajiya Binta further emphasized that the governor’s policies have not only improved students’ academic performance but have also restored confidence among teachers, parents, and other stakeholders in the education sector.
She added that Governor Yusuf’s leadership has “broken the jinx” of poor performance previously experienced in public examinations, pointing out that the recent success is a clear indication that the state is on the right path.
The Permanent Secretary also reaffirmed her belief that the administration’s continued focus on education will sustain the current momentum and lead to even greater achievements in the years ahead.
Some parents who spoke during the celebrations commended the state government for its efforts, noting that the improved performance has brought renewed hope and pride to families across the state.
They also called for sustained investment in education to ensure that the gains recorded are not only maintained but further strengthened.
Education stakeholders in Kano have described the development as encouraging, urging the government to continue implementing policies that support both teachers and students.
