The opposition party, PDP, has urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his administration’s approach to issues directly affecting the lives of citizens, citing the widespread suffering and poverty among Nigerians.
Hon. Yusuf Abubakar Dingyadi, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the PDP National Chairman, criticized the government’s policies, claiming they have worsened the economic situation and increased the suffering of many Nigerians.
Dingyadi, a PDP chieftain, pointed out that the government’s failure to provide basic necessities has led to a rise in poverty, hunger, and insecurity, particularly in the northern regions of the country.
He referenced states like Oyo, Anambra, and Abuja, where many innocent Nigerians have lost their lives, while others struggle to survive and obtain incentives during food distribution efforts aimed at providing palliatives.
The PDP chieftain called on President Tinubu to reassess his administration’s policies and prioritize the welfare of Nigerians.
Dingyadi emphasized the need for a more compassionate and effective approach to governance, urging the government to make provisions that will sustainably improve the lives of citizens.
According to him, President Tinubu’s government seems more focused on introducing policies that create hardship and suppress Nigerians, rather than offering solutions to their problems.
“Our people are more impoverished and have lost a sense of unity and cohesion in the country under Tinubu’s administration,” Dingyadi said. “Even vocal activists have compromised and become tools for political propaganda against the innocent common Nigerians.”
He also criticized members of the National Assembly, saying they have abandoned efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians, instead becoming a burden to ordinary citizens.
Dingyadi further stated that the government must reassess its approach, as Nigerians are facing immense hardship and poverty. The current policies have led to increased suffering, with many struggling to make ends meet.
He pointed out that after two years of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, there has been no significant improvement in the lives of Nigerians. Instead of relief, many citizens have found themselves among the victims of the ongoing hardship.
Particularly in northern states like Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Katsina, which were once self-sufficient in food production, the ongoing security challenges have disrupted farming activities. This has left many unable to feed themselves or maintain their livelihoods.
“We are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action, but so far, his efforts have been ineffective,” Dingyadi said. “It’s like trying to catch fish in a river without showing anyone how it’s done. As leaders, you should demonstrate how things are done so that people can follow and benefit.”
Currently, about 70% of Nigerians have become reliant on food handouts in the name of palliatives, Dingyadi concluded.
