The Director of the Kano State Statistics Agency Dr. Surajo Sulaiman has reaffirmed the agency commitment to deepening public enlightenment, strengthening community participation, and supporting key government development programmes across the state.
Speaking on the activities of the agency, Dr. Sulaiman urged residents to unite in addressing the challenges confronting their communities, stressing that sustainable progress can only be achieved through collective responsibility and active citizen involvement.
He advised communities to establish functional committees that would serve as channels for presenting their concerns and recommendations to the appropriate authorities, noting that organized communication remains vital to effective governance and timely intervention.
According to him, the agency has continued to deploy various strategies to educate the public on critical issues, particularly in the areas of healthcare, environmental sanitation, and social welfare.
The director, however, acknowledged the challenges facing the agency, especially in the area of public sensitisation, where greater effort is required to encourage people to take responsibility for their health and surroundings.
Dr. Sulaiman further revealed that in line with ongoing efforts to combat malaria and safeguard the health of pregnant women and young children a committee operating under the Statistics Agency in collaboration with development partners, is currently gathering relevant data to help check the spread of the disease across Kano State.
He explained that the findings from the exercise would guide government interventions, including the distribution of free medications, mosquito nets and insecticide sprays to communities in need throughout the state.
The agency boss also praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as remarkable achievements in governance, particularly the settlement of pension obligations across the 44 local government areas of the state.
He further commended the governor for investing in human capital development through sponsorship of students for overseas studies as well as the payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for eligible students in Kano.
Dr. Sulaiman concluded by calling on the people of Kano State to continue supporting the present administration with cooperation, useful advice and constructive engagement, noting that such collaboration is essential for lasting peace, growth and prosperity.
