From Musa Muhammad Kutama, Calabar

The Karaye Emirate Council in Kano State on Friday conferred the traditional title of Dallatun Karaye on Alhaji Isa Ilyasu, marking a historic moment for the emirate.

The turbaning ceremony, held at the palace of the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II, drew a large crowd of dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders, and cultural groups from within and outside the emirate.

The event was attended by members of the Karaye Emirate Diaspora Forum, the Karaye Old Boys Association (KAROBA), and prominent title holders, including the National Chairman of KAROBA, Murtala Burum-Burum, and his Vice Chairman, Alhaji Nasiru.

Also present were Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Lakwaya, the Sarkin Tsafta Lakwaya and PRO II of KAROBA; Idris Abubakar Dogon; Gidalle Idi of Unguwar Rimi Lakwaya; Mukhtar Kwanyawa; Alhaji Muhammad Eba Karaye; and Alhaji Isyaku Mada Yar Medi, among others.

Traditional singers, drummers and flute players added colour to the ceremony, which many described as one of the most vibrant the emirate had witnessed in recent years.

Speaking after his turbaning, Ilyasu described the title as a significant honour rooted in the history of the Sokoto and Zazzau caliphates.

He noted that he is the first person to hold the title of Dallatun Karaye since the creation of the emirate.

“The entire emirate crowned me as Dallatu based on the approval of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Kano State Governor,” he said.

“His Highness, the Emir of Karaye, found me worthy due to my contributions to human and capital development across the emirate.”

The new Dallatu pledged to discharge his duties faithfully and thanked the Emir for what he described as a “befitting and humbling honour.”
