The Katsina State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has confirmed over 105 cases of Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) across the state.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Shamsudeen Yahaya, disclosed this while speaking with journalists, noting that the cases were reported in 20 out of the 34 local government areas of the state.
He said that no confirmed death has been recorded as a result of the outbreak.
Dr. Yahaya identified Katsina, Jibia, Kaita, Mani, Mashi, Zango, and Musawa local government areas as the most affected.
He explained that the agency, in collaboration with its partners, is working to prevent further spread of the disease.
According to him, the agency has directed its Disease Surveillance and Response Units across all 34 local government areas to intensify monitoring and ensure prompt treatment of affected persons.
“The state government has provided drugs and trained medical personnel to handle cases of maternal mortality and seasonal diseases such as meningitis,” he said.
He further urged residents to report any symptoms early, including high fever, severe headache, and neck stiffness.
Dr. Yahaya assured that health personnel across all local government areas have been placed on alert to respond swiftly to any suspected cases of meningitis.
