Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on Wednesday urged beneficiaries of the Kwankwasiyya educational programmes to remain united and committed to service, as he commended the initiative for producing over 300 PhD holders across the state.

Gwarzo made the call while speaking at the 1st maiden Kwankwasiyya Scholars Annual Convention (KSAC 2025), held in Northwest University, Kano, where he described the gathering as a testament to the movement’s long-standing investment in human capital development.

The Triumph reports that the convention brought together 318 PhD holders who benefitted from the Kwankwasiyya scholarship scheme, alongside party leaders, government officials and scholars from across the state.

The deputy governor commended the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for initiating what he described as a transparent and people-oriented scholarship programme that prioritised grassroots beneficiaries.

“I want to commend Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for this visionary initiative that has brought together over 300 PhD scholars. The transparency in the selection process and the focus on ordinary citizens at the grassroots are worthy of emulation,” Gwarzo said.

He urged the scholars to continue to promote the legacy, vision and goodwill of the Kwankwasiyya movement, stressing that the opportunities they enjoyed should be extended to others.

“You must do for others what was done for you. That is how this movement grows and continues to touch lives,” he added.

Speaking earlier, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso expressed happiness over what he described as a historic gathering of scholars produced through the movement’s educational interventions.

He challenged three former governors of Kano State to publicly declare the number of students they sponsored abroad during their tenure, noting that the Kwankwasiyya administration sponsored over 3,000 students for overseas studies within four years.

Kwankwaso urged the scholars to remain united and supportive of one another, while also calling on them to defend and promote the ideology and programmes of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

He also took a swipe at former associates who defected from the movement, warning that betrayal of collective struggle often comes with consequences.

“Those who abandoned this movement should learn from the experience of others who did the same and are now politically irrelevant,” he said.

The convention was attended by the Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa; the Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to the Governor, Hon. Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso; the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; and the Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Danmaraya.

Also present was the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Scholars, Mansur Hassan, alongside hundreds of academics and party supporters.

Kwankwaso further thanked the current NNPP-led administration under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for sustaining the scholarship programmes and other initiatives associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement, saying continuity remained key to long-term development.
