The Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, Adamawa State, has matriculated 8,591 undergraduate and postgraduate students into various programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ibrahim Umar, congratulated the matriculating students and urged them to understand that they are in the institution for a purpose.
Advising the students, he said: “As you begin this journey, you have not just gained admission into a university; you are embracing responsibility and committing yourselves to academic excellence, discipline, integrity, and the pursuit of knowledge.”
He warned that the university maintains zero tolerance for examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, and all forms of social vices, stressing that any student found culpable would face strict disciplinary action.
The Vice-Chancellor also revealed that, in the current admission cycle, the university admitted 132 international students into various postgraduate programmes, adding that the institution remains committed to maintaining high standards of academic excellence and discipline.
Highlighting the university’s progress, Professor Umar noted that the institution has expanded academically with the establishment of three new faculties: the Faculty of Communication and Mass Media Studies, the Faculty of Computing, and the Faculty of Arts.
On infrastructure, he stated: “Our most significant achievement is the provision of steady and reliable power supply across the campus. The university now enjoys 24-hour solar-powered electricity, enhancing both learning and research activities.”
Speaking on future plans, he added: “Even more encouraging is the fact that additional hostel projects are already planned for the next academic session, as we continue to match our growth with adequate facilities.”
Professor Umar acknowledged the initial accommodation challenges some students may have faced, particularly in securing housing. However, he assured that proactive steps have already been taken to address the situation.
He wished the matriculating students a successful and fulfilling academic journey, advising them to ensure that their time in the university is marked by excellence, personal growth, meaningful achievements, and valuable relationships.
