From Musa Muhammad Kutama, Calabar
The Spiritual Leader of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS), Olumba Olumba Obu, has cautioned against actions capable of threatening the unity of the nation, warning that no individual or group should fan the embers of disunity or engage in violence.
The admonition was delivered during the universal celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Brotherhood.
Speaking on behalf of the organisation, its spokesperson, Dr. Amah Williams, addressed journalists in Calabar, stressing the need for peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.
He urged all ethnic nationalities to live together in unity and brotherhood, noting that Nigeria has the potential to serve as a model for inclusive leadership, good governance, social cohesion, and lasting peace.
According to him, leadership must be guided by conscience and a strong sense of justice.
“God does not approve power without conscience,” he said, adding that the poor must not be neglected, while the weak should not be oppressed.
He further emphasised that leaders at all levels of governance must refrain from using public office as an instrument of intimidation, insisting that governance should be people-centred and rooted in fairness and accountability.
Speaking on global peace and security, the organisation maintained that true peace is not derived from military strength or the possession of weapons, but from divine guidance.
“Peace does not come from the size of an army, the pride of a nation, the noise of missiles, or the terror of nuclear stockpiles; true peace comes from God,” he stated.
The brotherhood also expressed sympathy with families who have lost loved ones to insecurity and violence in Nigeria, the Middle East, and other parts of the world.
Olumba urged those in positions of authority in Nigeria to demonstrate integrity, uphold justice, and provide leadership that prioritises the welfare of the people.
