The Cross River State Police Command has launched an investigation into a 20-year-old Fulani herdsman, Ibrahim Rua, over an alleged attempted murder incident in Yala Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Calabar.
According to the statement, the Village Head of Bitol Community in Wanikade, Chief Mathew Ulakom, reported the incident at the Okpoma Divisional Police Headquarters on May 26, 2026.
Akata stated that Ibrahim Rua, who was employed by one Inaku Obok, popularly known as Audi Bako, to tend his cattle, allegedly attacked his employer without any known provocation.
“On May 26, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., Ibrahim Rua (male), aged 20 years, who was employed by Inaku Obok, alias Audi Bako, to take care of his cattle, allegedly brought out a knife and stabbed his employer in the stomach without any altercation.
He also stabbed one Lukpata Lom (male) on the head and back,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson explained that Inaku Obok sustained serious injuries and was initially rushed to Lutheran Hospital, Yahe, for treatment before being referred to the Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, for further medical care.
The second victim, Lukpata Lom, was treated and later discharged.
ASP Akata further revealed that the suspect was apprehended through the efforts of the Community Youth Chairman and is currently in police custody.
He added that investigations are ongoing and assured that further developments would be communicated as the case progresses.
