From  Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina

No fewer than 250 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State have defected to the Coalition Movement, citing internal crises and marginalisation within the party.

The defectors include aspirants who contested for House of Representatives, chairmanship, and councillorship positions in the 2023 and upcoming 2025 elections.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Jamilu Yahaya Kankara said they were forced to leave the PDP after suffering betrayal and deceit by a faction of the party leadership.

“We were directed to purchase nomination forms and contest for various positions, but to our shock, our names were never submitted to the electoral body. We were deceived and sidelined to protect the interests of a few individuals,” he said.

Kankara added that the PDP in the state is currently facing a leadership crisis and lacks a clear direction.

Receiving the defectors, the leader of the Coalition Movement, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, commended them for their bold decision and assured them of equal treatment in the movement.

“This movement was formed by patriotic Nigerians who are concerned about the state of the nation under the APC-led administration. We are here to salvage the country and chart a new course for national development,” Inuwa said.

Also speaking, former Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita revealed that the Coalition Movement would soon transform into a new political party, urging members to remain patient and committed.

“We need your prayers and dedication to actualise the movement’s objectives and provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative,” he said.
