The Kano State House of Assembly has passed a bill establishing two new agencies to take over the responsibilities previously handled by the Kano Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA).
The House Leader, Hon. Lawan Hussaini Dala, disclosed this while speaking with journalists after plenary, explaining that the decision was taken under the State Urban and Physical Development Law, which provides for the creation of the two agencies.
The newly established agencies are the Kano State Metropolitan Management Agency (KAMMA) and the Kano State Development Control Agency (KADCA).
According to Hon. Dala, KAMMA and KADCA will be responsible for issues relating to building approvals, construction permits, inspection, development control, and proper management of urban planning activities across the state.
He said that once the bill receives the assent of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the agencies will begin operations aimed at improving physical planning, regulating construction activities, and transforming Kano into a modern city.
The House Leader urged residents to support government initiatives and cooperate with relevant authorities in ensuring sustainable urban development and upgrading Kano to international standards.
