The Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) has recently commissioned a newly established Compliance and Enforcement Group Office as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen tax administration, enhance operational efficiency, and boost internally generated revenue across Kano State.
The newly commissioned office brings together three departments and two units under a unified structure.
They include the Tax Audit Department, Debt Management Department, Special Investigation Department, Risk Profiling Unit, and Enforcement Unit.
The initiative is aimed at improving coordination among departments, enhancing compliance monitoring, and ensuring more effective revenue enforcement throughout the state.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Amina Yusuf Yargaya, commended KIRS for its steady improvement in revenue generation and institutional reforms.
He described the establishment of the new office as a strategic investment in the economic future of Kano State, stressing that a strong compliance and enforcement framework is critical to expanding the state’s revenue base and ensuring fiscal sustainability.
The Commissioner also praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his continued support and commitment toward repositioning KIRS into one of the most efficient government agencies in the state.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of KIRS, Dr. Zaid Abubakar, FCA, FCTI, expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his unwavering support and leadership, which he said had continued to drive reforms and notable achievements within the service.

According to him, the establishment of the new Compliance and Enforcement Group Office became necessary due to the poor condition of the previous facility, which posed operational challenges and hindered staff effectiveness.
Dr. Abubakar noted that providing a conducive and modern working environment remains a major priority of the management, as it directly impacts productivity and quality service delivery.
He added that the service is also committed to equipping staff with modern tools and technology to improve efficiency and performance.
The KIRS Chairman further disclosed that the agency has recorded remarkable progress in its digital transformation drive, especially in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure.

He revealed that the service had expanded its computer systems from only 60 units in previous years to more than 360 currently deployed across various departments.
“Before the coming of this administration, we had only 60 computers. Today, we have over 360, and we are committed to ensuring that every staff member is equipped with the tools required to effectively carry out their responsibilities,” he stated.
Dr. Abubakar also urged staff members to remain disciplined, dedicated, and committed to their duties, emphasizing that professionalism and hard work are essential to institutional growth and success.
He assured employees that staff welfare remains a top priority of the management, noting that a motivated workforce is crucial to achieving greater efficiency in tax administration and sustaining revenue growth for the development of Kano State.
