The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reached on Friday during a meeting between the Commission and Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), where key electoral matters were reviewed.
In a statement issued by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna said the postponement followed extensive deliberations on the proposed exercise.
INEC described the voter revalidation exercise as a vital component of its constitutional mandate to maintain a credible and up-to-date National Register of Voters.
The process was designed to verify existing voter records, correct personal data, remove duplicate and ineligible entries, and enhance the overall integrity of the voter register.
It also provides an opportunity for registered voters to confirm and update their information where necessary.
Despite the postponement, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections across the country.
