From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
Northwest University, Sokoto (NWUS), has proposed strategic academic partnerships with Global North London Business School (GNLBS), United Kingdom, and the University of East London (UEL).
The partnerships aim to deliver internationally recognised undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, raise academic standards, and create sponsorship opportunities for outstanding students.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Protocol at NWUS, Abdallah El-Kurebe, said the proposal was contained in a document dated May 22, 2026, and signed by the Director of Studies at GNLBS, Dr. Julius Ayodele.
According to the statement, the partnership seeks to align NWUS’s academic programmes with UK qualification standards while equipping students with globally competitive skills and internationally recognised credentials.
The proposed undergraduate programmes include Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Management, Health and Social Care Management, Law, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with each programme carrying 360 credits.
The collaboration is also expected to promote curriculum innovation, joint research, student exchange programmes, faculty development, and professional training opportunities.
The Vice-Chancellor of NWUS, Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza, welcomed the proposal.
“Northwest University, Sokoto, welcomes this proposed collaboration as a significant step towards advancing our vision of providing globally competitive education.
“We believe that partnering with Global North London Business School will open new opportunities for our students and staff, strengthen our academic programmes, and enhance our international profile.
“If successfully implemented, this initiative will contribute meaningfully to human capital development in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large,” he said.
He added: “On behalf of the Founder and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, as well as the management and staff of Northwest University, Sokoto, we acknowledge the proposal from Global North London Business School.
“We look forward to further discussions and commitments toward its successful implementation for our mutual benefit.”
In a related development, NWUS has also advanced a separate academic collaboration with the University of East London in the fields of Computer Science and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The initiative was facilitated by Dr. Bilyaminu Romo, an Assistant Professor at UEL and a beneficiary of the educational empowerment programme of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
The programme has sponsored many young people from Sokoto State to pursue higher education and specialised training within Nigeria and abroad.
Leveraging his expertise, Dr. Romo initiated the partnership to foster academic cooperation between NWUS and UEL.
The collaboration is expected to promote joint research, faculty and student exchanges, curriculum development, capacity building, and knowledge transfer in emerging digital technologies.
The initiative is also intended to complement Senator Wamakko’s investment in youth empowerment, education, and community development by creating opportunities for students and academic staff to gain international exposure, engage in cutting-edge research, and adopt global best practices in information technology.
