From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
In Sokoto, AGILE project has sought the support of the state ministries for Local Government and Community Development and Budget and Economic Planning to advance girl child education across the state.
Project Coordinator Dr. Mansur Isa Buhari emphasized that collaboration is crucial for the project’s success, as AGILE aims to improve secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls across the 23 local government areas.
During separate visits to Commissioners Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare (Local Government) and Balarabe Musa Kadadi (Budget and Economic Planning), Buhari stressed the importance of community mobilization.
The project will rehabilitate and construct 448 secondary schools, requiring community contributions and infrastructure safeguarding.
AGILE focuses on empowering girls through education, dispelling Westernization concerns and enhancing girls’ education.
Adare assured the Ministry of Local Government’s support, acknowledging rural areas’ unique challenges, where education is often overlooked, especially for girls.
As the saying goes, “educating a woman is like educating a nation.”
Women bear significant responsibilities, caring for children, especially daughters. Supporting women’s education is vital for national progress.
Kadadi noted that AGILE promotes the transition and upgrading of Junior Secondary Schools to Senior Schools, benefiting many households thanks to project managers’ dedication and World Bank resources.
By constructing and refurbishing schools, AGILE improves learning conditions and empowers girls through education.
Sokoto State Government prioritizes education, allocating 6.0% of its annual budget, aligning with Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s 9-point smart agenda.
This project addresses socio-cultural, financial, and infrastructural challenges preventing girls from accessing and completing secondary education.
